Dr George Petrou’s expertise was previously only available in specialised centres in major cities. Originally from Sydney, he relocated to Port Macquarie in January 2008. As a practising liver oncology surgeon in Sydney, Dr George Petrou has achieved a vast experience in surgery of the liver and the biliary tract. His training in liver surgery has taken him from the Gold Coast to Melbourne, and also to the United States of America, where he has been actively involved in courses in minimally invasive surgery involving the liver, and the gastrointestinal tract. Dr Petrou’s technical skill in Bariatric and Hernia surgery are world class. Dr Petrou focuses on thoroughly exploring a patient’s suitability to a procedure and works with a multi disciplinary team of specialist physicians and health professionals to gain and provide optimal knowledge and care of a patient. He has first hand bariatric experience with both Professor Kelvin Higga of the Heart and Surgical Hospital, Fresno in the USA and Dr Robert Rutledge, the ‘creator’ of the Mini Gastric Bypass.
Dr Petrou attends regular International workshops enabling our team progressive knowledge including SAGES and International Federation of Surgery for Obesity and Metabollic Disorders (IFSO).
